Animation Production 3D:
This course is focuses in basic principles and skills of working with 3D graphics designing, starting with animation production stages covering (creative idea – story boards – modeling – lighting and texturing – animation – rendering the scene). The course is based on mini tutorials which distribute the working skills during a practical training. Finally the achievement of students examined by a comprehensive final project.
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Describe the production process of 3D graphics.
- Modeling: parametric modeling, modifier stack, meshes, extrude loft and Boolean
- Rendering: making simple materials, accessing the default material library, applying textures
- Viewing: zoom, save renderings
- Other tools: snap, grid, tool options, move, rotate
- 3D Graphics Design
- Add light and camera to the 3D scene
- Animate the 3D scene
- Render the 3D animation into digital movie
Photography Imaging & Design:
The basic principles of digital photography are presented for study and explored through assignments of a problem-solving nature. An emphasis will be placed on image manipulation and the use of digital photography in graphic design layouts.
· Understand camera operations, concepts of the digital darkroom and the relationship between traditional and digital photographic techniques and processes.
· Learn the basics and importance of creating an organized and effective digital workflow.
· Learn various techniques to enhancing and manipulating an image through applying effects and filters in Adobe Photoshop.
· Explore the use of digital photography in graphic design layouts and its importance in marketing and advertising endeavors.
This course is an introduction to two-dimensional graphic and design techniques, where you will be creating a variety of artworks based on the elements and principles of design. In this course, you will be learning about the elements and principles of design, printmaking, poster design, commercial package design, and will be introduced to computer graphics through an introduction to Photoshop.
1. Identify and manipulate many of the key structural features of various letterforms and typefaces in the design of a typeface
2. Display an understanding of a variety of technical terms and devices for designing effectively with type
3. Design typographic layouts for a variety of publication forms
4. Understand the role typeface design plays in establishing a tone of voice in creating meaning in visual communication.
Digital Audio Production:
This course is designed to acquaint the student with all aspects of audio production including advanced audio production techniques, radio broadcasting, audio for television, and multimedia audio
. Emphasis will be placed on methods and skills used the production of radio, TV, and multimedia. Students will attend lectures and gain experience in production as they complete the projects assigned in the course
DESCRIPTION: This course focuses on how to get the best sound you can for all picture media. While this redesigned course is still the one to learn about production sound for film and video, it is not just for sound people or filmmakers students, directors, camera people, editors, producers, designers and anyone who understands that good sound makes the difference between an amateur work and a piece of awesome beauty, blinding brilliance and staggering power, will want to take this course. It will cover microphone fundamentals, using wireless systems effectively, sound for DSLR's, recording to camera and to double system, shaping a project to maximize the power of audio, and getting the most out of your production sound in a video non-linear editing system. Animation Production 2D :
The objective of this course is to introduce students to the elements and concepts of two-dimensional animation design. An understanding of two dimensional design principles underlies all 2-D art from drawing and painting to photography, illustration and animation graphic design. These elements are shape, value, texture, color, line, space and mass. Visual sensitivity and a working knowledge of the design elements is developed by solving a series of 2-D problems, employing a variety of media and materials.
The instructor will:
· Convey examples, techniques, tools, and models relevant to Flash projects. And Animi Studio
· Guide students through the basic Flash skills and provide technical assistance as requested.
· Each student will have the opportunity to:
· Explore, categorize, and evaluate existing Flash projects.
· Create basic Flash projects that incorporate animation, interaction, and multimedia elements.
Multimedia Technology :
· Images and graphics: color, bitmap graphics (global/local/pixel-level editing), vector (object-oriented) graphics, overview of graphic formats (characteristics, use), graphics for the Web (requirements, tool)
· Digital audio: characteristics, formats, use
· Digital animation: bitmap animation, vector animation
· Digital video: formats, non-linear editing, requirements for the Web
· Elements of off-line Multimedia
· Introduction to shot types and how they are used in film. Introduction to video production and first look at the video cameras. Students practice setting up and de-rigging cameras kit
· Camera shot types, camera movements and compositional rules.
Students film a storyboard and rotate roles in the production process. Introduction to storyboarding. Discuss, develop and choose ideas for their shoot
Motion Graphics VFX:
DESCRIPTION: This is a production course designed to introduce and expand your knowledge of the world of motion graphics and special effects. Credits, transitions, green screen, filters, masks, mattes, all sorts of things. In contrast to the animation course, this class will focus on advanced compositing and techniques to enrich your video, stills, typography and to get exactly what you want to see onscreen. You will not be required to draw anything (complicated). Consider this more of a course in design than art. We will take the elements of design: line, shape, value, texture, color, direction, size, perspective and space and add one more thing to them: time. Advanced digital video techniques for post-production. Emphasizes integration of special effects, 2-D animation and 3-D animation for film, video, CD-ROM, and the Internet. Exploration of new and emerging compression and video streaming technologies.
Integrate 2-D and 3-D animation in video productions; generate special effects for film/video production; apply video streaming technologies for Internet video; apply Chroma-keying in video productions; and plan, edit, and produce a video production.

Aesthetics & Criticism
Course Content: In this course theory is taught experientially. Course content includes: the formation of art attitudes, definitions of art as aesthetic theories, obstacles to perception, visual vocabularies, politics of display and representation, diverse critical models for interpreting art, and issues of power conveyed in images. Students explore their own assumptions, values, and definitions of art through activities that reveal their beliefs.
Objectives: Through reading, lecture, small group & class discussion, in and out-of-class activity, written and visual products, students will:
1) Be able to articulate individual and shared beliefs about visual arts phenomena such as fine, public, and folk arts, film and video, and digital imagery.
2) Be able able to identify influences affecting the formation of attitudes toward works of art and identify multiple social, cultural, and psychological contexts that shape the meanings of visual phenomena.
3) Be able to demonstrate use of an Intervisual Process Model to interpret and better understand the meanings of visual Culture.
4) Be able to create visual communication for and within a group work setting where multiple and even contradictory viewpoints are admitted and encouraged.
5) gain insights into different theories of art, critical issues in art, and models of art criticism.
Advanced 2D animation & cartoons:
Digital Animation has become initial in film industry and computer game production. This course is an extension of the basic training of 2D digital Modeling and Animation, covering the application of Digital Animation on film production and the integration of Digital Animation and game design. Students can take advantage of the world-class facilities provided by the Department, including the digital film and TV recording and sound control studio, motion control tracking system, Dolby digital surround audio studio, sound effects laboratory, real-time motion capturing laboratory, 2D computer animation Laboratory, digital special visual effects and editing laboratory, and 2D scanner and cartoon drawing studio, digital cinema, digital color grading system to learn effectively. Through practical training, it should greatly enhance the competitiveness of graduates.
· This course further develops students' ability in character and story development, storyboarding, movement, timing and design for animation, but with a greater emphasis on the realization of a finished production
· Analyze key animation forms and identify animation styles and place them in a historical and cultural context;
· Articulate and apply animation theory in the development of their work;
· Select and use animation techniques appropriate for story and audience;
· Design and produce a short animation from concept to delivery.
This course gives students the necessary skills to edit with Media Composer and a theoretical toolset for approaching different projects.

Students are provided footage to edit various projects over the course: a music video, trailer, short documentary, and a short narrative scene.. Lab time is part of the schedule, and allows the students to utilize the skills they have acquired. At the end of the course students will have a completed demo reel, which will be a compilation of all of their work.
DESCRIPTION: Whether you want to be an editor, director or producer, Introduction to Editing is an essential, hands-on course for any production student. By completing a series of narrative and nonfiction assignments, you will finish this course with increased confidence in, and understanding of, the seamless editing technique and software. We will also view and analyze film scenes to understand how editing contributes to meaning.
This course is a further elaboration of the principles and techniques of editing. discuss aesthetic, technical, and practical approaches to editing and consider how they might best apply to some (provided) editing challenges. In particular, we'll concentrate on the development of editing styles that are appropriate to a range of material and creative solutions to editing challenges.
Advanced Animation Production 3D :
This course covers in depth the different techniques of 3D modeling, and texturing, rendering and animation. In addition to regular assignments using 3ds max or Maya, each student will need to do a final project to create a short 3D animation clip, and present the animation in class at the end of the course. This course is not about learning "how to" use these specific programs, but learning the basic 3D modeling and animation concepts, techniques and vocabularies which are not program specific, and to apply what you learn in a creative way. Students will learn the basic concepts of 3D-character generation and animation on 3D Studio. Learn how to create 3D environments.
- Animation introduction; editing animation: key frames, the curve editor/dope sheet; animation constraints/controllers
- Introduction to deformation and hierarchical animation, rigging & skinning characters
- Lights, Lighting, Cameras and Render Effects.
- Environments, environment mapping, fogs and atmospheres.
- Rendering, Special Effects and compositing: Video Post, motion graphics applications.
TV Production & Direction
This course is a study of basic television production as it applies to live studio programming. Beginning instruction is offered in the areas of studio camera operation, audio for television, and television directing, with an emphasis on underlying principles of video technology. The digital production process; including audio and video capture, nonlinear editing, and output for interactive. The course will be divided into five component parts:
- The Pre-production Process
- The Production Process
- The Post-production Process
. Students will be graded on creativity and technical:
1. Understand and operate DV recorders/players.
2. Differentiate between various cables, jacks, and plugs in common use.
3. Perform the basic camera moves and compositions.
4. Understand and produce a string of basic shots into a meaningful sequence.
5. Recall definitions of basic media production terminology.
6. Understand and operate a variety of microphones under various conditions, and audio tape recorders/players along with compact discs, monitors, and headsets.
7. Demonstrate basic understanding of video switchers, character generators, and audio mixers
8. Demonstrate a basic understanding of the operations of lighting equipment .
9. Demonstrate an elementary ability to coordinate (direct) a video production which involves giving commands to a crew (which includes camera persons, VTR, technical direction, floor manager, talent, lighting, audio, etc.).
10. Demonstrate an elementary understanding of Digital editing.
